What is Azoospermia? Male fertility
Medical condition of not having sufficient amount of sperm in semen is called Azoospermia. Men with this condition have very low fertility levels because without sperm conception isn’t possible.
Anyway, absence of sperm or low volumes of it in the ejaculate does not mean that the body isn’t producing it. It might not be just delivered to semen or it might get produced in tiny amounts.
Whatever the reason is, it’s very frustrating for a man.
Azoospermia has two forms:
Obstructive Azoospermia
In this case sperm is produced but can be delivered to the ejaculate and mixed with it. The reason to that is a physical obstruction.
Non-obstructive Azoospermia
Problem in this case is with spermatogenesis, the process of sperm development, similarly to hyperploactinemia, abnormally high levels of prolactin in the blood.
Even 500,000 spermatozoids per millilitre more likely won’t allow you become a father naturally and most likely you will be diagnosed Azoospermia.
Azoospermia is diagnosed by conducting the tests such as physical examination, hormonal evaluation, transrectal ultrasound, urine analysis and eventually testicular biopsy. These tests are needed to set the diagnosis whether you suffer from Azoospermia or not.
If tests are positive and Azoospermia is diagnosed, then determination of the cause is necessary. There is chance for a man if some volumes of sperm are produced, but the worst scenario is if the sperm isn’t produced at all. It’s necessary to know the exact cause to determine further actions.
Azoospermia is fairly rare condition from which suffer around 2% of men. There is no indication of this condition on the general health and even healthy men can suffer from Azoospermia.
Is there any chance for Azoospermia sufferers? Even if Azoospermia is diagnosed there is a chance of becoming a biological father. Modern medicine has developed certain techniques of sperm harvesting to achieve the fertilization, so there is a chance for everyone.
